The Heart of the Gospel

God loves you and wants you to have eternal life with Him.

Your sin separates you from God and deserves judgment.

Jesus Christ, who was fully God and fully man, died on the cross for your sins, was buried and rose again.

“Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Salvation is a free gift received by repenting (turning from sin and self-reliance) and trusting/believing in Jesus alone as Lord and Savior.

True faith leads to a changed life (regeneration), but the saving act is God’s grace received by faith, not any works that we do.

There is nothing we can do to earn salvation for ourselves or any other person. Neither good works or moral living, church attendance, religious rituals and practices, following religious laws or traditions, nor any other human endeavor can can save you. Faith alone, thru Grace alone, in Christ Jesus alone is the only way to eternal life in the presence of a Holy God. Each person must respond individually to God’s offer of salvation.

God’s Word, the Bible, presents the Gospel as profoundly good news precisely because it is not based on our flawed performance but on Christ’s perfect finished work. It invites a simple, wholehearted response: repent and believe. This leads to forgiveness, new life, and assurance based on God’s promises rather than our fluctuating feelings or efforts.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”  2 Corinthians 5:17

The Predicament

Man is a sinner and in need of a Savior

No one can live up to God’s standard of righteousness.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

“There is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3:23

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” 1 John 1:8-10

Man’s sinfulness, if not remedied results in eternal damnation.

The wages of sin and God’s gift:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.” Romans 5:12

“He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36

The Provision

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, paid the penalty for mankind by dying on the cross. He rose again the third day and offers freely to all deliverance from hell and the gift of eternal life. JB Hixson. “Getting the Gospel Wrong”   © 2024

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:16-18

“But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

The Profession

For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." Romans 10:13

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10

“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:24

The Promise

There are only two destinies for everyone who ever lived. Eternal life in God’s presence thru the free gift of salvation in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross or eternal separation from God in unceasing torment. “Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.” Daniel 12:2

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Savior, you are walking a tiny thread over the fires of hell. The Bible says “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2.

No one knows how long they have in this life, consider the promises of God and turn to Jesus for salvation!
